What we are looking for in IATA Africa and the Middle East

In order to deliver more value to our members and customers, to overcome our unique regional geographical and operational challenges, and to maximize the opportunities we have across the region, we are looking for leadership talent in our Africa and Middle East region. We are looking now for a Subject Matter Expert who is:
* Responsible for supporting the design, development and implementation of IATA's regional aviation security and facilitation policies, positions and strategies;
* Supports the delivery of IATA's global aviation security and facilitation objectives, and contributes to the development of industry positions and strategies.
* Engages with member airlines, governments, international organizations and industry partners and provides input to regional and global IATA governance group/s as well as supports other task forces and industry working groups, related to aviation security and/or facilitation, border control or passenger/cargo data.
Responsibilities
Delivery
Serves as IATA's leading regional expert on aviation security matters, including those related to legislative and regulatory developments;
Works closely on regional and global aviation SECFAL collaboration endeavors with the Regional Offices such as but not limited to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), World Customs Organization (WCO), Airports Council International (ACI), regional airlines associations and other National and Regional government agencies and associations to represent industry views and to develop regional aviation security and facilitation standards;
Promoting implementation of ICAO annex 9 and 17 standards within the region including global initiatives (GASeP, TRIP, etc.) and in coordination with airlines identify the related gaps and address them accordingly
Lead the regional industry efforts to review standards, establish road maps, and guidance material to combat current and evolving threats such as conflict zones, cyber security, land side, insider threats and vulnerabilities;
Develop reports and analysis of geopolitical events that affect civil aviation security.
Develops and promotes concepts and solutions related to risk management including collection and analysis of information, methodologies of risk determination and potential response, risk resilience and dissemination of information to relevant stakeholders.
Actively engages in identification and promotion of innovative solutions in the implementation of aviation security measures, including Next Generation Aviation Security concepts.
Supports the development of aviation SECFAL standards through technical contribution to the IATA audit programs documentation and publications, in particular IOSA and ISAGO.
Manages and coordinates the technical input of industry aviation SECFAL governance groups and taskforces as tasked.
Liaise with external industry stakeholders, governmental and international entities with the objective of promoting IATA vision and projects in aviation SECFAL.
Actively support the Regional Directors of APCS and SFO, and cluster teams on airport development related matters including broader aspects related to aviation SECFAL whether on the ground or in the air.
Commercial Support
Support achieving IATA revenue generating targets through promotion of IATA solutions
Cluster Team Work and Expert Knowledge
Collaborate with and support the Cluster Project Team in an agile way;
Partner with regional Subject Matter Experts to ensure a constant upskilling and regional capacity building;
Provide timely reports to the Cluster Project Leaders regarding progress of work of the set objectives
Maintain a proactive relationship with Subject Matter Experts at Headquarter level where applicable and benefit from expert guidance;
Support fostering a culture of inclusion, integrity, team spirit, strategic thinking, partnering, innovative pioneering and acting with a human touch
Qualifications and Skills
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor's Degree in Aviation, Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Law or other related subject;
* Minimum 10 years of working experience with at least 6 years airline/ airport/Civil Aviation Operational Security and Facilitation experience, with particular emphasis on international border control processes, passenger and cargo data exchange systems, existing and emerging technologies which support automated clearance of passengers and cargo consignments, standards development processes and the role of inter-governmental organizations;
* Documented working/operational knowledge of civil aviation regulatory and operational frameworks, airline and/or airport and/or Civil Aviation security operations; including familiarity with ICAO s Annex 9 and 17 and similar World Customs Organization publications;
* Proven ability to analyze divergent data, identify key issues and develop appropriate responses;
* Experience in networking with and influencing stakeholders, governments and other institutions on aviation as well as economic matters
* Experience in successful public speaking engagements, in making effective presentations to varying audiences and in preparing reports based on technical merits and facts
* Advanced Proficiency in MS Office
* Fluency in English (CEFR: C1)
Preferred Qualifications
* Advanced degree is an asset e.g. MBA
* Certification as aviation security auditor/inspector by national/regional or international recognized authorities;
* Successful completion of IATA Aviation Internal Auditor Course, IOSA Auditor Training Course, IOSA Airline Auditor Course, IATA Security Audit and Quality Control Course, ICAO AVSEC Professional Manager Course, or any other internationally recognized training and certification aviation courses.
* Previous experience in managing, leading or overseeing projects is an asset
* Project Management tools or/and CRMs (e.g. Salesforce)
* Proficiency in regional languages (CEFR B1)
